One of many issues discussed world-wide is the topic of abortion, with regards to whether it should be legal or banned from the international world. Many laws, ideas, and bills have been passed through the Government over abortion lately, due to all the controversy internationally. The main perspective that is focused on would be, the legalization of the act, with countless pro-life people and many pro-choice, the issue of disagreement on legalization stands with going. Based on a pro-choice perspective, women that do not want to withstand pregnancy due to the high rates of death during child birth or after, should have the option of abortion. Yearly in the United States alone, anywhere from 700 to 800 women die in a result of child birth complications (Maron, 2015). A multiplicity of abortions are performed on young adults, 15.1% of abortions are performed on young adults within the ages of 19 and below (Bridges, 2014). Young adults have abortions due to the unwanted pregnancy interfering with their school, work, or future plans. These young people may not have the time, money, or support in order to go through childbirth to have the baby, resulting in the option of abortion. Like any other situation, stress is produced prior to the abortion but there are no findings by the American Psychological Association, of post-abortion syndrome (Lowen, 2016). It is known that only 50% of young adult mothers receive their diploma by the age of 22, with a child in their life at such a young age. Versus, 90% of young ladies receive their diploma by the age of 22 without a kid (Anonymous, 2016). While there are other forms of preventing unwanted pregnancies such as an emergency contraceptive pill, abortion can sometimes be the only answer. The emergency contraceptive pill can work up to 120 hours after engaging in unprotected sex, but is most effective within the first 72 hours of unprotected sex. However, the pill should not be taken if allergic to a component (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2015). Also, the typical price for the most effective brand of the emergency contraceptive ranges anywhere from $35.00 to $65.00. Young adults tend to not have many financial funds, and are not ensured an emergency contraceptive unless the women is requesting the pill due to sexual assault or incest.
