Abortion. What is it? Abortion is the act of removing a human embryo or fetus from the uterus of a pregnant woman before the completion of the full term of pregnancy. Twenty-one percent of all U.S. pregnancies end in abortion. On average, women give at least 3 reasons for choosing abortion: 75% say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities; about 75% say they cannot afford a child; and 50% say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their partner (Rich 17). Since the beginning of time there has been a heated debate on this topic. Should abortion be illegal or legal? Abortion is starting look okay in the eyes of the government and society. Why is that? Shouldn 't we all strive to protect life? But now more than ever there is a constant argument between Pro-life and Pro-choice advocates. We should expect abortion to be rare, but once abortion becomes available to everyone it becomes the most attractive option. If women have an abortion, it’s like the pregnancy never existed. No one is inconvenienced. It doesn’t cause trouble for the father of the baby,or affect her social status and it won’t embarrass her mom and dad (Green 5). Abortion is wrong and should be illegal because it is a violation of the right to life, there are other alternatives to an abortion, and abortion could cause physical and psychological damage for those involved.
