What is a banned book? A banned book is a book that has been challenged somewhere and removed from shelves for various reasons regarding its content. The banned book ‘A Stolen Life’ is banned in many places, including a middle school called Northview Michigan, and some high schools. According to three sources, this book is banned for “Drug/Alcohol abuse, sexual explicit, smoking, and offensive language/profanity”. I feel like the literary merit of this book heavily outweighs the reasons for the book being banned. By examining the drug abuse, sexual explicit, and profanity in ‘A Stolen Life’ it is clear that this book should not be banned.
