Shot Gun Sequencing Sequence Analysis

Decent Essays
The methodology the authors in this paper utilize to closely analyze the genomic content and the evolutionary history of Asgard archaea lineages is referred to as shot-gun DNA sequencing. Next Generation Sequencers (NGS) were used to expedite shot-gun sequencing. Shot-gun sequencing is a key method used by geneticists and biochemists in sequencing long DNA strands. In this method, long sequences are separated into shorter sequences and then bonded together again to give the complete sequence. The shorter sequences are identified as reads. The reads are classified through their function, this depends on if it is an end-read or a read. These reads are then reassembled using a computer program for sequence assembly in which they carefully aligned

The first link on the list for was used for all of the four genes to find the identity of the gene because it was the most similar. When clicking on a particular species that was listed, a full report of the specie appeared on the page. The information on the report was then used to fill out the BLAST Data card for each gene files. The genus and specie was the first two words in the name, and the common name was found by googling the genus and specie name. The protein produce by the sequence was found by looking at the third word of the link.…

A total of four microorganisms were isolated from the sample brought back from Mars. To identify the microorganisms which were isolated from the sample brought back from Mars, an rDNA sequence analysis was required. Every sequence had an S_ab score of 1.000 meaning the sequence is identical to the microorganism that it was matched to. Before gathering phenotypic results, we gathered phylogenetic data for the four microorganisms which includes Micrococcus luteus, Citrobacter freundii, Hafnia alvei, and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Micrococcus luteus is a gram positive, coccus shaped microorganism that is nonmotile and unable to grow on glucose minimal media or simmons citrate agar (Kocur, 1972;).…

The Evolution Canyon is a particularly special place for observing how a specific species may change overtime, in two different environments. Evolution Canyon I, located in Lower Nahal Oren, Mount Carmel, has two slopes; a South Facing Slope, which receives higher solar radiation, higher temperature, and experiences droughts, and a North Facing Slope, which shows a more temperate climate, with shade and humidity engulfing its physical atmosphere (Nevo, 2009). The fungus Sordaria fimicola can be easily obtained from both of these slopes and grown in a lab, making it an ideal organism for scientists to study. It produces fruiting bodies containing asci with eight spores. These asci arrangements in the spores can than be viewed under a microscope…

to be inaccurate. There were a few centimeters of difference between the drawing of the bullet wound on the back of Kennedy’s neck compared to the picture taken at Parkland Hospital. What was believed to be an exit wound on the back of Kennedy’s neck by the Parkland staff was later determined to be an entrance wound by Bethesda (McAdams “The Medical Evidence” 1). This contradiction implies that the government was attempting to cover up the fact that the gunshots came from in front of the car opposed to behind it where Oswald was alleged stationed (McAdams “The Medical Evidence” 6).…

Uneven Ground From the perspective of a teen in a world filled with injustice and constant newsflashes about racists and movements for equality, I’m trained to see things in tunnel vision. I’m trained to view my culture as the very “developed” and “civilized” United States as superior to other cultures despite its flaws. I’m trained to look down upon Middle Eastern countries as they are all “terrorists”. When I turn on the television I hear talk about this white policeman, that black policeman. However, at the exact same time, if any of these opinions were explicitly stated out loud, I would surely be called a racist, a Trump.…

The Sangers dideoxy sequencing method uses the dideoxynucleotide triphosphates (ddNTPs) as DNA chain terminators. For this method to work effectively, it requires the following: a DNA primer, a single –stranded DNA template, radioactively or fluorescently labelled nucleotides, a DNA polymerase, and modified nucleotides that play a role in terminating the DNA strand elongation. The DNA sample is divided into four separate sequencing reactions, containing the DNA polymerase and all four standard deoxynucleotides ( dGTP, dATP, dTTP,dCTP)…

Editing Order of shots - In this scene the order of the shots mainly shows a large amount of distress and panic. This is because in the few shots where the character notices the vault is opening, we see him hearing and realising something is wrong with the vault. The next shot then shows the computer screen with the warning alarm notifying that the vault is opening after this we return to the character as he spills his tea all over him in shock. These shots are also known as shot-reverse-shot, which helps the audience to distinguish what the character is looking at and what’s causing them to be distressed. In this case finding out that the vault is being opened, something is clearly going wrong and so panic begins to set in.…

Scientists classify organisms by grouping and sorting organisms together based on their physical structure, evolutionary relationships, embryonic similarities, genetic similarities, and their biochemical similarities. The most popular form of classification system used by scientists is Linnaeus’s System of Classification, by which organisms are classified and grouped into 6 different kingdoms; bacteria, archaea, protista, fungi, plant and animal. By classifying organisms it provides scientists with an easy way to study organisms efficiently, and allows for predictions and knowledged observations. Knowledge about classification allows scientists to make predictions about organisms, living and extinct. It allows for a comparison and understanding…

These organisms are similar in structure to bacteria, being single-celled and no nucleus, hence the name Archaeabacteria. Just recently the scientific community gave these highly adaptable organisms their very own domain. With some extensive research scientists believe Archaea has nothing in common with Bacteria. One of the differences is the archaea have no peptidoglycan in their cell walls and that archaea is closely related to the eukaryotes by from having chloroplasts or mitochondria to produce energy for cells. The Phylogeny of the Archaea has these phyla: Thaumarchaeota, Crenarchaeota, Korarchaeota, Nanoarchaeota, and Euryarchaeota.…
