Shorter University Personal Goals

Graduation hallmarks a time of genuine but, scholastic reflection of dynamic memories, while personal goals dictate achievements, spiritual growth, and a legacy left for younger generations to follow. Shorter University fosters the opportunity to receive a Christ-centered education while allowing students to remain focused on pursuing their relationship with God. As an exuberant high-school senior, I reside with my mother, younger sister, and my troublesome pet cat, Cally, and I enjoy working part-time at Marco’s Pizza. My arduous pursuits consist of playing the clarinet, writing poetry, learning the art of the French language, and volunteering throughout the community. Apart from earning a degree in accounting at Shorter University, my personal goals, that I will accomplish by graduation, range not only - from harnessing a deeper relationship with God as I continue to fulfill his call to share the gospel - but also, to developing new, yet immutable friendships, while cultivating my greatest contribution: my desire to publish my writing to glorify God. Furnishing a deeper relationship with God captures a personal goal, that I will accomplish by graduation. Throughout my college career, I will enjoy seeking God each day through prayer, while also spending time absorbing his word to develop …show more content…
Friendships are relationships based on principles of love, trust, empathy, and forgiveness, while they often result in fellowship along with Godly counsel, and attending college provides phenomenal opportunities to establish lifelong relationships. My personal goals regarding friendship include influencing others: by inviting classmates along with coworkers to church, introducing myself to someone new at church each week, encouraging others to grow in their relationship with God, and receiving numerous prayer requests to pray for each friend

The other part of life that college should prepare you for, being a “good neighbor, a loyal friend, a devoted spouse, a committed church member, a loving parent, a responsible citizen,” does not come by being focused on controlling one’s destiny (Davis 29). Wanting to be educated to control one’s destiny also poses a theological problem. As Davis points out, this can become a problem of idolatry when one’s own ideas of the outcome of going to school override God’s (Davis 24). The fix for this problem?…

Without the relationships I have made with the girls in my grade at Northwest I am not sure if I would have even continued my walk with God. Not only have my friends been a major influence, but so have my teachers. During class they just have shown the light of Jesus through their teaching. I have embraced the style of teaching from a christian worldview, which I had never had before. Some teachers have sat with me and talked for hours, and that has really opened my eyes as to how much they want to pour into us.…

On the one hand individuals must experience friendships in order to live a good life. As earlier explained friendships are a necessary and noble part of an individual’s life. But perhaps even more profoundly is the realization that friendship is a necessary response to the dignity of all human life. Life is a sacred gift from the Creator and therefore God yearns for his people to recognize the gift of life. I believe that friendship is an answer to the reality of the sanctity of life.…

I'm currently pursuing a Master of Art in Theology at Whitworth University. Whitworth's mission is to equip its diverse student by providing an education of mind and heart. This mission statement attracted me to Whitworth compared to the other schools I got accepted at. An education of mind seeks to help a student pursue a rigorous study that will enable them create solutions to make the world a better place, while an education of the heart seeks to kindle a compassion to heal, inspire, protect and provide for the weak, marginalized, and the poor amongst us and globally. After completing my first semester and looking forward to the next two years at Whitworth, I have concluded that I made the right choice to study there, and the education…

“Friend” Friends are those people with whom you share your life. Despite the fears one has about sharing every bit of their life, from their deepest secrets to their greatest joy, and their greatest hopelessness, a friend is someone with whom one shares everything. “Friend” means different things to different people; it is something that has to be experienced to be understood. The definition of friend has especially changed in recent years, due to social media sites, such as Facebook; people are making “friends” that they have never had face to face contact with, compared to the traditional definition of friends exemplified by the Holy Bible’s descriptions of friendship, which focuses on love, loyalty, willingness to sacrifice, and an ability…

Defeating the odds of my upbringing and creating legacies for African American males is one of those aspects. I lived in homeless shelters, cars, and trailer parks. It was a privilege to be the first African American at my high school to be accepted into the United States Air Force Academy. Outstanding leaders at the Academy have taught me discipline, leadership, and the importance of servitude to others. There are only 60 thousand AF officers in the US and less than 9% are African American.…

Hello Alvey, I enjoyed reading your post since it demonstrated your passion towards secular friends. As you had friends who were not Christians, I had non-Christian friends. In high school, I yearned to see an organized presence of my student ministry among the student body. Although I was a significant, by God's grace, ambassador to my school, an organized presence, such as a club or volunteering at school events, would have enhanced my student ministry's voice in the community.…

I also experienced hurt when some of my non-campus ministry friends decided to unfriend me when I started studying at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena.
