Should We Have Shorter School Weeks?
If we have shorter school weeks that would allow kids to relax more, have more time to do homework, and more time to study. We could save money on transportation with not having to drive to school five days a week and kids tend to pay attention more to school with that extra day of school off which can lead to better test scores and better grades. Think about it, do you really want your kids to be getting stressed about getting their homework done and not having any time to relax? Do you like having to buy gas to drive your kids to school and do you really like when your kids gets so bored in school that they stop paying attention? If we have a shorter school week then we wouldn't have any of those problems.

Some people are against the four day school week because they are worried they will have to spend more time in school. But really the lost day, spread out over the four days, results only in about 10 extra minutes per class period. It is also pointed out that students have extra time to complete homework and do projects over the extended weekend. So you really don’t have to spend anymore time in school than normal. Would you rather have a couple more minutes every day in school or would you rather have an extra day

“Schools that operate on a four-day schedule typically shorten the school week by eliminating either Monday or Friday and add more time to each day to provide the same number of instructional hours as a traditional five-day week” (“Four-Day School Week–Evidence Blast,” 2013, par. 2). My first thought on a four-day school week is that it cannot happen in urban areas as most families are dual income and so parents are unable to take off one day per week to care for their children. For one Minnesota school district, it was estimated that a four-day school week would cost families an extra $600 per year in childcare expenses (“Four-Day School Week–Evidence Blast,” 2013). Having a four-day school week makes me fear for those children who would…

Schools barely have enough time to teach kids what they need to know for standardized tests. Rahm Emmanuel, the mayor of Chicago and a supporter of longer school days, said in an interview that because schools don’t have time, “students [essentially] have to pick between social studies versus science; math versus music; reading versus recess." (Schaper, 2012) At least one extra month of school would leave the door open to a lot of learning possibilities. Kids leave grade school and are not prepared for what is ahead of them.…
