Short Term Memory

Who has a better short term memory boys or girls? This experiment's purpose was to answer that question that many people wonder. For many years there has been an on-going conflict between the sexes as to which one has an easier time at retaining information for a short period of time. In recent studies with short term memory, the scientist has been testing the amount of time it takes to forget little pieces of information or the difference between ages. In the experiment we used different ages/grade levels to test the who did better, boys or girls. In the experiment boys and girls ranging from ages 5-65 were tested. A short video was played and the same questions were asked after the video, then they would take a test and would be scored based

The introduction to this experiment goes over the background knowledge and purpose of this entire experiment along with the ideas/theories and hypothesis as well. Starting off with the background knowledge, two scientists named Vandello and Bosson, made the assumption in their research Precarious Manhood that the whole concept of manhood is “hard won and easily lost.” This means that it is easy for the title of “manhood” to be revoked from men and close to impossible to gain it back fully and maintain that title at all times. Vandello and Bosson found out that men mostly react in extreme stereotypical ways (aggression or high stress) when their manhood seems to be at risk or threatened. The primary stereotype men follow is showing their aggressive…

The goal of the guns, testosterone, and aggression research report was to test whether interacting with guns increased testosterone levels and later aggressive behaviors. The researchers used 30 male college students from the age of 18 to 22 as their subject, getting extra credit in return. To protect the results of the experiment, subjects were told they would be participating in an experiment that examined taste sensitivity in males. Since their saliva would be taken for hormone analysis, subjects were asked not to eat, drink, smoke, or brush 1 hour before testing. After sitting 6-ml of saliva into a cup their testosterone levels were tested.…

"Do men and women think in the same way?" I want to do this science fair project because I am interested in how the brain works depending on the gender. I want to know if they think similarly or differently. I also want to know if not only the gender but does the age affect what they think. Stereotypes. We all have to deal with stereotypes at one point.…

The results I got for this experiment was that the amount of trigrams remembered in the control was higher than the experimental. The reason for this was that the experimental group waited 15 seconds before writing the trigrams, and the control group didn’t which affected a lower result for the experimental group showed in the graph. There is also a decrease between the experimental and control median by two points. The study used to attempt to replicate was the experiment conducted by Lloyd R.Peterson and Margaret Jean Peterson in September, 1959. The experiment was conducted to investigate if there is short-term retention of individual by using verbal items after each short intervals.…

Students who identify with gender or racial minority groups may see their group membership as an obstacle to academic success. Additionally, other theories suggest that the academic achievement minority-group children are jointly affected by cultural conflict both inside and outside of school (Nasir & Hand, 2006). These students may face obstacles such as nonsupport at home, parents who do not value education, or lack of relationships with teachers and peers that encourage learning (Nelson, 2014). A study by Marsh (2008) suggests that changing the organizational systems and structures of a classroom could have a positive impact on both students of color and students living in poverty.…

Compared to a computer, the brain also has many programs like allowing us to think, move, and make decisions. Additionally, our brains use instructions often too.…

Owen Blakemore and Centers used their study to expand upon previous research regarding opinions about toys' appropriateness for boys and girls. The authors conducted two related studies in which college students rated the gender-appropriateness of toys from as many categories as possible and then to sort the same toys based on their characteristics. In the first study, the students viewed photos of the toys and assigned them a number from a nine-point scale where each extreme meant the toy was for only one gender. The goal was to see how much opinions had changed since prior research. In the second study, the researchers divided the toys into "Girls" and "Boys" and asked the undergraduates to rate numerous characteristics, including…

In 1968, Atkinson et Shiffrin asserted that short memory access information may show long-term memory which serves as the gateway. (Atkinson and Shiffrin, 1968).The function of short-term memory is to provide a means of controlling and enhancing, with rehearsal and coding strategies (such as chunking),the information that makes it into long-term memory (Edward E. Smith, Stephen M. Kosslyn, 2010, Cognitive Psychology, The McGraw-Hill Companies, (pp. 247) ).Growing with literature, scientists asserted that (Atkinn and Shiffrn, 1968; Baddlley and Hitch, 1974) there is another memory type except long and short term in human…
