Short Term Goals Essay

Improved Essays
My short-term goals are mostly preparation for my long-term goals. My first goal is to begin a master’s program for clinical mental health counseling. This is a goal I have been working towards for four years now. I want to get my master’s and become educated. Although beginning my program has been delayed by a year, I am still striving to accomplish this. My second short-term goal is to get an internship. My ideal internship would be located in a hospital setting working predominately with adolescents. In my undergraduate career I was exposed to a hospital clinic belonging to the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. It exposed me to the nitty gritty of working in the profession. Not only that but it showed me how the counselors and doctors worked together to help the patients that passed through. I am determined and I know one way or another I will reach my long-term goals even if the short-term goals have to change. On a personal level I want to experience other cultures and see how where I am and socioeconomic status interact with psychology. What is the norm in one country can be taboo in another. It was fascinating to learn about them and their

During my internship at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center (STC), I gained more confidence in my decision in eventually pursuing a career in health care, either through being a researcher or a physician. I first started my internship at the University of Maryland STC in my senior year of high school as a requirement for my magnet program. The internship was a volunteer position but we performed basic tasks such as stocking each bay with supplies and saline solution, retrieving blood from the blood bank when needed, and providing blankets and socks for incoming patients. I never paid attention to the importance of these tasks until one specific incident.…

As a student eager to get out of the classroom and experience working in the mental health field, as well as interact with those suffering from mental illness, an internship was the logical next step to gain this type of knowledge. Although this comes with its natural feelings of anxiety and inadequacy, the knowledge and life skills I’ve gained through this experience has helped me grow as a person, has made me feel more prepared to help those struggling, and has given me the skills to overcome such negative feelings in the future. My internship was with Crawford County Human Services, specifically spending my time with the Blended Case Managers (BCM), and for a small amount of my internship, the Family Case Managers (FCM). For a brief…

My skills, interest , and smart goals help shape my future for many reasons , like they can help with choosing my major in college , they can help me make and set goals for myself , or even help you with planning out your life with your family. My skills , interest , and smart goals can help with choosing a major in college because if you are interested in mathematics you would not want to choose a major in being a language arts teacher. You would probably want to be a math teacher or a mathematician.
