Short term effects include the appearance of yellow and brown stains on teeth, completely lost athletic ability, damage to the respiratory system, addiction to nicotine, decreased lung capacity, chronic cough, increased risk incidence of bronchitis, increased risk of asthma and more severe asthma. These effects are caused by the cigarettes being regularly used. The yellow and brown stains are teeth are caused by nicotine and tar. Nicotine by itself is a colourless substance, but when combined with oxygen it turns yellow. When tobacco is inhaled or in the mouth, nicotine and tar settle into the oral cavity.
