The brain is not fully developed until you are 25 years old, and when you begin drink under this age, it may cause irreversible damage to the brain. Most teenagers do not know that alcohol is a depressant, because it initially feels like a stimulant. This is because alcohol makes you feel self-conscious and unable to relax. There are also physical effects that most people do not know about such as, damage to the medulla, which controls the body’s automatic functions, like your heartbeat. The medulla also keeps the body at a stable temperature. Alcohol lowers the body’s temperature and sometimes alcohol lowers the temperature to much and the person dies from hypothermia. If they can not find drugs like marijuana, they use something like Xanax. Xanax is a anti-anxiety drug that also has sensitive effects on the user. Xanax has both short term and long term effects if you overdose on it. Short term effects are: drowsiness, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, depressions, and even seizures (Drug Abuse). Long term effects are proportional: cognitive deficits, delirious states, depression, psychotic experiences, and aggressive and impulsive behavior (Drug Abuse).
