I will be writing a summary over the book "The Devil in the White City", this book is very interesting because in my opinion it shaped how people think in modern day times. Before this people didn’t look over their shoulder while walking down the street, but now everyone does. In the summary I will be telling you why people look over their shoulder while walking down the street.
This novel takes place from 1890-1895, the two architects which is John Root and Daniel Burnham are sitting and waiting to see where the World Fair will be held at, the only two remaining places were Chicago and New York, but they wanted it to be in Chicago. Chicago ends up winning with the most votes. So Burnham and Root get to brain storming cause they need something that can draw more attention than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. So Holmes went and killed Pitezel but that isn't the crazy part. After Holmes killed Pitezel he convinced Pitezel's wife that he just ran away and went into hiding because he "no longer loved her". This meant she was raising five kids on her own. This means she needed help so she let Holmes travel with three of her five kids this was a major mistake all three of the kids became his victims. After this brought attention, the cops finally cracked the code that Holmes was Howard. They tracked him down and put him in jail. Holmes was
finally charged with all the murders he had committed which was a lot, which included men, women, and children. He was sentenced to death for the crimes he had committed which in my opinion he deserved it. He tod police his stories and killings which added up at twenty-seven people. He appealed his case but lost and was put to death on May 7, 1896 in Philadelphia.
