Religion can be looked at differently by everyone but, Islam is a religion that has made headlines in the last few years. The religion is simple just like any other, the idea of worshipping a God. Thus, within Islam there are many different categories that can be discussed, the Muslim religion has origins, symbols, rituals, festivals and sacred writings that are dear to many. The hijab is a head covering/piece that must be worn by Muslim women at all times except when with her immediate family (family that is forbidden to marry her). A women’s beauty and sexuality is unlawful and inappropriate for public display in the Islamic religion. Her feminism but be kept only for her husbands eyes and not other people, especially other men. Furthermore, Men are to be in decent, proper and modest clean clothes at all times. Gold and silk clothing is only appropriate for a man to wear as it would be seen unlawful for a woman to sport the look. Swimming trunks for men are only allowed to be worn if it will not tempt them into committing sin. Moreover, prayer is a very important ritual in Islam. It is preformed by all who follow the religion. Salat, meaning daily prayers is considered to set the day ahead. Without prayer the day is not set and protected by Allah. Mind, body and soul is connected when praying. There is a must to be in the right frame of mind before prayer and ready to welcome God’s love. Lacking the right attitude, is considered to be the same as if no prayer was displayed that particular day. Moreover, festivals make up a large portion of Muslim culture. Sawm, which translates to fasting is another crucial ritual followed by the Muslim population. Fasting is the fourth under the Five Pillars of Islam. During Ramadan, 29/30 days must be lived without sexual activity, smoking and food or drink. This is the ultimate sacrifice made by the Islamic population to show their love and appreciation for the religion. Evil thoughts and deeds are also recommended to be abstained from. The only meal eaten during Ramadan, is right before dawn, and is expected to last all day.
