Short Story: The Salem Witch Trials

In a town called Landers, 75 miles west of Salem, a girl named Abby is walking through town. Looking around nervously, and jumping when a stranger say hello, she walks. Day in and day out, she walks. Abby Willis has been the subject of every gossip conversation since she got to Landers. “Why does she walk?” one woman asks another. “Surely there is something wrong with her,” says the other. Everybody wonders who she is and where she came from. Several people have tried to talk to her, but her response is always the same. She always replies with “I don’t know who I am anymore.” Everybody knows that there is something wrong with her. Meanwhile, witch trials are still in full-swing and accusations are flying left and right. Nobody knows who is telling the truth and who is lying. Joseph Frise has been accused of witchcraft by Abby Willis. She walked into the courtroom and started screaming “Joseph! Joseph stop! Stop it now! Joseph!” After her fit had ended, she explained the reason she has acted so strange. Abby claimed that Joseph had come to her and possessed her during the night. She said that his spirit has not left her and she has no control over her body at times. Later that day, Joseph Frise was hanged. This trial was so fast because it was the first to have real evidence. All the other people that has accused others had no real proof. Abby Willis was the first to have proof, and everyone believed her story. The very next day, Abby accuses Mary Johns. She claims that Mary is a witch that came to her and asked her to sign the devil’s book. Mary was hanged later that day. Countless people are accused by Abby, and hanged. Finally, the people who live in Landers realize what Abby is doing. They see through her attempts to act possessed and her stories about people that have come to her. Several men get together and plot revenge on
