The Pumpkin Which Wanted to Become a Chariot

It was close to midnight when Betty the pumpkin was deeply asleep when she was awoken by an intense light. She slowly opened her eyes and asked her fellow pumpkin who was right next to her.
-What is that?
-Shhhhhhhhh- her neighbor said-, I’ll tell you in a minute, I’m trying to listen.
Betty saw two women talking, one of them was a beautiful young lady dressed in rags, her clothes were old and stained; the other was a bright lady, literally. As a matter of fact it was her light that interrupted her dreams. But even when she tried really hard, she couldn’t hear the conversation and she was afraid her neighbor pumpkin couldn’t hear it either. So, they stopped trying and started to talk to each other.

I was falling asleep again wihen the bright lady appeared.
-What do you mean? – Betty asked.
-Just what I said, her neighbor said confidentially-. She just appeared out of nowhere and she lit the entire orchard with her bright light, I don’t know why.
-She might be radioactive. Or perhaps she went through a magnetic field or a nuclear waste lot and that’s why she is like that -. Betty answered to her pumpkin neighbor quite serious and worried.
-I think that the kid who lives next door and comes to read those strange stories is affecting your head, the odd things you come up with – her neighbor replied a little concerned for Betty’s mental health.
-What did you expect? This is the very first time I see a walking lamp, why do you think she gleams? – asked Betty challenging her neighbor to come up with a better explanation than hers.
-I think that everything has a logical explanation – she calmly answered.
-Really? Which is it?
-The bright woman is a fairy.
-A fairy! Well, that is a logical answer – Betty sarcastically said. - If I weren’t so sleepy I would burst into laughter. Fairies don’t

Why did the lady choose that pumpkin instead of choosing her? Didn’t she have enough color? Wasn’t she sufficiently big? Was she to skinny? What did she have to do differently to get selected? She couldn’t tell. So she devoted herself to get bigger, fatter and and more colorful. She wanted to become the ideal pumkin, the best of all, so the next time that bright lady came to the orchard she would definitely get selected.
When the time to harvest arrived, the gardener noticed the huge and beautiful pumpkin Btty now was. He decided to keep her in the orchard a little longer. A month went by and Betty was put on the back of a van. The gardener took her to the county fair. She won the price for the biggest vegetable from all the participating farms, they placed a huge banner infront of her, a paper medal now hung feom her and everyone applauded at her.
Betty though: Well, this isn’t that bad, I’m not a chariot, but instead of taking people inside of me, today I traveled as a princess, and I was admired by a crowd. I’m not a chariot, but I’m the best pumpkin

Quote #1 In the murder mystery, Mr.Justice Wargrave is guilty of killing not one, but nine people and himself. The author does such an excellent job in keeping the reader wondering who the killer is until the end of the book. Even though she gives us a really big clue, the author makes sure it is not too obvious. And this is the clue; “Given the scheme in question which is neither more nor less than the execution of justice upon certain individuals for offenses which the law cannot touch, there is only one way in which that scheme could be accomplished. Mr. Owen could only come to the island in one way.…

Betty Betty’s lack of desire to marry or perform womanly duties results in an accusation of witchcraft, explicating the ways in which women suffer due to societal expectations. Betty is bled by the village doctor in scene six, a process believed to reveal witches, which Vinegar Tom’s production note advises “is one of humiliation rather than torture and Pack is an efficient professional, not a sadistic manic” (134).
