The setting of this fantastic story takes place in New York in the Upper West Side during 1979. The setting of the story is important because young Mirada and her friends have to grow up in New York, where they have to walk home from school every day, and a crazy man standing on a street corner is not unusual. My favorite character from this book is Miranda, a young girl living with her mother in an apartment in New York. She is my favorite character because even though she does not have as many comforts as she would if her mom had more money she is still content with her lifestyle and surroundings. My favorite passage from the book is, “To save Sal. That’s why you stood on our corner day after day. That’s why you were always doing those kicks
