“Why don’t we go out to the porch?” Sam looked at Colleen oddly until she tilted her head toward the doorway, where Maggie just entered. “It’s a bit warm in here.” Sam waved his hand for her to lead the way and they moved through the people in the dining room and out into the back porch. It was cold out, the bon fire died down that it was just throwing a little light up to where they were standing. Colleen moved over and sat down on the banister, her breath making little white puffs as she looked out onto the empty lawn. It was cold out, but for once Colleen didn’t mind it. “We aren’t,” Sam said simply before he walked into the house. He didn’t really care much about Chris, but the girls didn’t like him and that was good enough for him. That, and Chris seemed to want to get Colleen alone a little too much. If he was a friend, why did he insist on talking to Colleen on her own? What was he going to say that Sam couldn’t be there for? Why did he care? Sam started walking back into the living room when Rachel came out of the library. She pulled up short at seeing Sam there. He was used to it, he knew that it was a bit of a shock when you weren’t expecting a six foot four man in your way. “Sam,” Rachel was breathless, though she smiled at him as well, “Dean thinks he’s found something.” Sam looked behind him for a moment to see Colleen talking with Max and a few other people Sam didn’t recognize before following Rachel back into the library. He could smell Colleen’s perfume on his shirt. It would be better for him to focus on something he actually understood.
