Emperor’s Chicken
The emperor liked chicken. In fact he loved them. He adored their deep rhythmic clucks, their fiery red crown firmly placed on the top of their heads, soft innocent feathers, fascinating sharp golden-brown beaks, and most importantly their prideful, self-poised stance. In fact his palace was designed from the inspiration of a chicken, the walls painted white with accents of red, round in the center with a balcony resembling that of a chicken's tail.
The emperor was a fine man, strong and courageous, until one day he had tragically lost his wife due to pneumonia. It was later discovered that the emperor himself had come down with pneumonia as well, becoming very weak and ill. Now, the emperor had three beautiful daughters,

May I ask what brings you so far from home?”
“Yes, in fact you do not happen to know ...”
“... about the golden chicken?” finished Avalon
“Then I suppose you know where it lies as well?”
“Why of course, the chicken? It was here right before your eyes the whole time.”
And right before her eyes sat the golden chicken. Before she could do anything she had remembered the doctor had said to give a gift and there she will find it.
“Oh dear chicken please grant me a feather from your body and I will give you a gift of whatever you ask. My father is very ill and the only hope I have left is your feather!”
“We shall make this quick and easy. I have been alone ever since my eleven brothers and sisters have been killed for their feathers. I have no one to talk to other than the wind and the echo of my own voice. So stay here with me, I shall give you three days to spend with your family but after you must come back here, and live with me forever. You must not tell anyone of this deal and promise to not look behind you when coming back.”
And right there the deal was made. She took a single golden feather from the belly of the chicken, travelled back to the palace where her father and sisters had been worrying about her mysterious absence. How she wanted to tell them of her travels yet remembering her promise went right to the doctor who whipped up a potion for the
