Snow’s Cycle
Written by Kayleigh It had been days since she was home, perhaps weeks, she couldn’t tell due to the everlasting snowstorm. Her goals were to survive in the barren environment and find refuge – possibly in an acquaintance’s hut of whom she reignited friendships in a glacial scene prior to whatever paranormal event was happening. Now, she had found herself stranded in (hopefully the same) polar wasteland with no recollection on how she arrived there, not even where she was. A rose-red pendant kept flashing in her mind. Lead, was attempting to pin her down as she stumbled towards it. Gradually, the shape of it was expanding as more weight held her. But it was growing too slow. Forces were getting more intense, the hadopelagic pressure of the twilight times of her life. Her limbs were aching as she forced her body to move on. Recoil from her strenuous actions caused her to lose control of herself. Her throat felt dry beyond comprehension, rough and aching. The drained girl had blurring vision, nausea overwhelming her. The last vestiges of fall had passed and only brown, shriveled leaves remained on the sidewalk. Trees appeared naked, shivering without their blanket of color. Cold air blew through their skinny, lifeless branches, tossing the trees around as though they were mere sticks rather than giants. She shuddered as the chilly wind kissed her brow, leaving a wretched disease of ice and sorrow in its wake. Within this wintry prison there was no joy, there was no warmth, and, above all, there was no diversity.…

It was bit windy, and the air was chilly and sharp. Tiny white snowflakes fell on my hair and stayed there caught in my little trap. One foot in. In front of my feet I saw untouched, thick snow protecting everything below it like nature’s wintertime mother.
