One night sucker asked pete “do you really love me like a brother?”.He just wanted to know if pete felt the same way towards him as he felt toward pete. This makes it look like Pete doesn't even think Richard’s reassurance would be good; or that he thinks Richard’s opinion would be useless to him. The final example of Sucker displaying his character trait of being insensitive is in this quote. “Once a couple of years ago I told him (Sucker) that if he’d jump off our garage with an umbrella it would act as a parachute and he wouldn’t fall hard. He did it and busted his knee”(pg.18). At first glance, this prank pulled off by Pete seems relatively harmless.…

During Pap’s drunken tirade, he utilizes multiple rhetorical strategies to appeal to his son and gain sympathy and support. He feels the “govment” is interfering too much in his life, and he is entitled to much more than he is given. Pap displays this through repetition and pathos. His audience and employment of pathos is centered towards Huck who is in the room observing his father’s rant.…

In this paper, I will be discussing the popular deceiver argument, and Jonathan Vogel’s response to it. In his article, Vogel describes the deceiver argument and talks the reader through what it is and what it is trying to explain. After he does this, Vogel then goes on to reject the deceiver argument, claiming that premise two of the argument is false. The responses that have been put forth are then discussed by Vogel, most likely trying to come up with a response he deems worthy of being the best response to the deceiver argument. After Vogel finds his response of choice, he goes on to briefly explain it.…

Outside Appearances Can people really change? In the novel, The Outsiders, the author S.E. Hinton argues not to judge someone by their outward appearance, and that violence is not the right way to solve your problems. This is illustrated through several characters but is especially prominent through Johnny. Johnny somehow finds ways to be brave, strong, and caring in a neighborhood full of drunk Socs and parents that abuse him. This is shown through the change and development in Johnny through him being the gang’s “pet”, killing Bob, and dying for others.…

As I said in my post, and like you have stated in yours, doing wrong is the key. Richard is “making use of his wrong doings.” According Machiavelli's book, the key to being a successful leader actually has absolutely nothing to do with doing the right thing or being a nice person, but instead it has everything to do with being a bad person, doing wrong and knowing how to be manipulative and sneaky. Richard is a prime example of what a good Machiavellian villain is. I completely agree with you in saying that Richard doesn’t really mess up, you are right.…

In this paper, we will discuss how the protagonist of “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?”, Connie, and “The Horse Dealer’s Daughter”, Mabel, struggle in their search for love and feeling of self-worth and acceptance. Connie and Mabel both search for love in the wrong places because they do not receive the love they desperately crave and need from home. This lack of attention creates a feeling of worthlessness within Connie and Mabel. Science has proven that children need love and attention in order to properly develop cognitively and socially. Without the proper nurturing and love children will not grow up to their fullest potential and will become more dependent on others for survival.…

Or leave knowing you left the child there? (Verducci. S p.1) In the essence of developmental psychologists might say you cannot help the child since his mind has been conditioned to the fact that no one loves him and if someone was to show him love he wouldn't be able to process it while as a social psychologist might try to find a correlation in why the people stay and leave the question is in fact what might happen if one was to bring the community to stop instead of helping the child, in order to cure the body the mind must first be willing to change, but it is human nature to be reluctant to change. In fact might the question be what was the author trying to bring to light when she wrote it?…

Everyone retains a specific “human” nature; however, it is left up to the individual how they choose to interpret various aspects of human nature in their everyday personalities. In the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain incorporates various characters to capitalize on the flawed aspects of human nature. In the novel, it is evident that Twain is showing his disapproval towards the way humans behave. Each character: Pap, Grangerfords and Shepherdsons, and the King and Duke are able to embody one side of the human race. How is it that one man is able to cause so much damage in someone’s life?…
