1. Thesis: Although Israel Potter might not be a likable character to many, I find him as a likeable character because he is the most realistic character that people can relate to and throughout the story, and he tries to find his identity, in which everyone tries to find throughout their lives.

• Main Idea 1: Being an “American”. He struggles to be a real American in the story and he tries to lose the American identity when he goes to England. He wants to hide the fact that he is American and tries to get along with the British.
