Short Story Of Dixie: Mr. Arnold

Decent Essays
Dixie: Mr. Arnold, as this has happened to me in some other classes. As I like to write things down because this helps me remember things. When this has happened to me I am surprised when I don’t get the right answer. So for a student that can memorize something and it be wrong I think it would be upsetting.

Daryl Cagle’s amusing diction reveals the astonishing truth about today’s educational system as he swaps out “a young girl’s quote bubble with a picture of a marked scantron test” and recreates her facial expressions as “ignorant and irritating”. He portrays an elderly woman asking a young girl what she had obtained from going to school that day. Cagle sums up modern education by simply placing a multiple choice answer document to the girl’s response. By using multiple colors and patchy lines adds touches of ignorance and foolishness to the piece. Cagle uses this sketch to criticize our educational system.…

Imagine you're entering to your class after a nice and long summer vacation. Your teacher tells you that you're having a test to see how you're doing in that math, english or science class. I am pretty sure that you will not do that well on your test, thanks to your nice and long summer vacation. That is one of the reasons why I believe that a year-round school schedule is better or more helpful for students than having a traditional schedule. to have a better understanding on what we are doing.…

The feedback I provided students on the nonfiction texts feature assessment addressed each individual needs and strengths relative to the standard being measured because it provided students with written exclamation on how well they performed on the assessment then I discussed the areas they had specific difficulty with, which included following through of the directions needed to complete the assessment to earn full credit. For example one student gave an answer but did not include the name of the text feature used to locate the information needed to answer the questions. I provided feedback for the students to look at the underlying sentences in the direction because she had forgotten to include the text feature and some her answers were not written using full sentence as…

While I did not have permission to view the individual scores myself, it was implied that most students received a 70% or above. Jane loved to learn, but had difficulty understanding when instructions were given only in an auditory manner. She believes, however, that since instructions are most often given this way in her classroom, that this is the way she should learn. Jane often feels inadequate in class because she falls short of the expectations she sets for herself, certain that if she concentrates hard enough, she will remember all of the instructions that are given. The stress of failing courses because she is unable to remember all of the instructions are becoming perilously burdensome for her and, even as an adult, she feels like collapsing under the weight. She considers giving up and quitting some of her courses.…

While observing in Beth Johnston’s First Grade classroom at Eugene Field Elementary School, I have noticed some effective and ineffective classroom management practices that she uses while I have been in the classroom. One effective classroom management technique that I have observed is that Mrs. Johnston puts her student’s desks into groups of three or four. This is an effective technique because she puts her strong students with her not as strong students, which can help with the students who might need a little help staying on track with the lesson that they are supposed to get done. Also, Mrs. Johnston has changed the groups a couple of times since I have been observing in the classroom. This I believe is effective because the students…

After distributing a quiz to each student, my teacher set her timer for one minute. In that minute, she expected us to complete the quiz in its entirety, without flaw. If a flaw were found upon grading, meaning that at least one answer was marked incorrect, we would fail the quiz for that week, and ultimately be denied a sticker. This sticker symbolized our comprehension of the material, and was utilized to track our progression on a large chart in the back of the classroom. It was not until I began struggling to learn the material that I became aware of the individual progression of my classmates.…

Students face various social and emotional challenges as they develop and interact with the world around them. Their ability to control their emotions and reactions is dependent on their level of development, surrounding environment, and the skills they have been taught, modeled, and practiced that deal with social and emotional factors (Ed Psych, p 70). During my field experience in my 3rd grade classroom at S.H. Elementary, I have observed Mrs. Branson establish relationships and provide students with the necessary skills needed to develop their emotional competencies. Mrs. Branson teaches 3rd grade in a charter school located in the south suburbs of Minneapolis. Her class consist of 23 diverse student learners from various racial, ethical,…
