Half-way upstairs, Clemmie took a break. On impulse, she pressed her nose against the cold landing window as gusts buffeted the frame, then she breathed on the glass until it steamed over. On it she wrote. Who am I?
Since breakfast, her headache had come back. Gradual to start. Then stronger as the morning progressed. The smallest sound made her flinch, and as such, she wanted to keep busy as it might take her mind off the pain.
A sense of urgency spread through the house as they prepared for the storm. Up and down the stairs. Up and down again. Three flights from top to bottom. They would all sleep well tonight, despite sleeping in a strange room.
