Adnan’s innocence is supported by the unreliable story that Jay Wilds gave to the police. Jay is a friend of Adnan but they were not close at all. They had mutual friends and they smoked together every now and then. On February 18, 1999, Jay was interviewed about Hae’s murder, and he explained that Adnan was the killer. Clarabeth Maire Grainer laid in her bed unable to sleep, she stared at the white ceiling above her as she thought to herself. Why is it that when a new idea is brought to light, society ridicules it without a second taught? The short story “The Glass Roses” written by Aiden Nowlan, suggests that even though your way of life does not resemble the life of others does not mean it is wrong, rather if the new idea brings happiness, people must pursue these evolved ideas. This theme is possible because of the author’s use of indirect characterization, relatable conflict, and grim setting. Throughout life most people face the conflict of pursuing personal desire or the desire to follow a beaten path.…

Growing up I loved to watch re-runs of the Addams Family on television. The reason I loved this quirky, yet comical show is clearly in the title. Obviously, the familiarity with the name “Addams” was an instant connection. But really, it was the word “Family”. This macabre and bizarre family was not your traditional television family, and that is what I loved.…
The short story A & P, written by John Updike, is different because of the way that Updike is able to write in present and past tense from the perspective of a teenager thinking back to his days working in a grocery store. The story is about some girls who walk into the store wearing nothing but their bathing suits. These girls draw everybody’s attention away from their work and onto them simply because of the way that they’re dressed. Besides the distraction, most of the conflict does not occur until the store manager notices the girls and scolds them about their attire. The comedic patter of the story is very evident with the way the narrator gives the girls and others in the store little nicknames that are almost somewhat offensive.…
There is a certain type of dedication that a 13 year old girl has for a band full of cute boys that she wants to marry. The excitement only builds when the concert is announced, and finalized when a white t-shirt is decorated with the last name of the cutest member written on the back like a jersey. April 11th 2014, the date circled in the Glee Calendar was fast approaching; in fact, the story starts the very afternoon before the concert. Churchill P.E class, the least athletic but surprisingly competitive place, causes the initial hiccup. Ultimate Frisbee does not seem like a deadly game; however, in this case it almost was.…
