The cotton candy sky lit up the new morning as the family awoke. The kids had to go to school and Luna had to go to work. Daniel had the day off, so he was to be finding out what can be done about their tragedy last evening. The silver steel Chevrolet was rolling up and over the loose rocks; the crisp leaves of October where settling on the grass. When they pulled up to the public school, and the kids left for the day, Luna went to Janie’s Kitchen, which was where she was a waitress. When she pulled into the lot, she could tell something was different. She shrugged it off and continued into her work. When she walked in she saw four faces frowning upon her. That’s terrible!” Luna said with worry in her eyes. She knew exactly where this conversation was ending, hoping that maybe she was wrong.
“We are going to have to fire you,” said the owner with tears welling up in her eyes. Luna wasn’t mad, but she wasn’t okay with this either. How was she supposed to pay for her home to be fixed? How was she supposed to pay for her kids? How was she supposed to afford her mortgage with one working parent!
As she traveled back home, she was distraught. Instead of going back to her mother and father in-law’s, she parked on the empty road and slowly got out of the car. She took a great inhale of the air. Slowly exhaling, Luna started to cry. It wasn’t tears of anger or frustration, it was tears of depression. She was heartbroken because of all of the things she could no longer afford. The kids to play sports, for them to have nice clothes, for them to go places to make memories. When she inhaled more of the crisp, cool air she thought about how she had to go tell her family.
After the kids came home from school, and Luna had come back from her thoughts, she plucked up the courage to sit down her family.
