Short Story: Lloyd's Journey

Improved Essays
Lloyd never realized how minimalistic the four of them had until he started packing, each of them only had three outfits, they had no true running water with all the water in the house being supplied by water crystals, by extension, that also meant that they didn’t have hot water in the house, only the two fireplaces and wood burning stove could be used to heat their cadin, their beds were made of straw, pillows of feathers, tools of wood, shoes of braided grass, they eat the food that they grew themselves. Lloyd guesses that it was the fact that they started with nothing and any improvements were hard won, greatly appreciated, and never taken for granted. Definitely not an easy life, but it a fulfilling one. Yet, Lloyd was leaving this bountiful, …show more content…
He then frowns as a giggle and a shriek come from the bathroom, Lloyd guesses that the girls had near frozen the water in which was hitting a certain part of Emil’s anatomy.

“Are you ok with the girls taking a shower with your boy toy?” Lloyd clinches his fist, and grits his teeth, as he resisted the urge to shatter Alexander’s jaw. Raising twin girls has most definitely helped Lloyd’s patience, and anger control. If it had been five years earlier Lloyd wouldn't have just shattered Alexander’s jaw, rather he would have been black and blue with bones sticking out at odd angles.

“Please note that the only reason that you are still in one peace is because we need you to help carry stuff, once we are done moving your jaw is shattered.” Alexander freezes in place as he realizes that he had just angered a man who is known for breaking every bone in a person's body for insulting Emil. Emil’s just as bad as Lloyd in that aspect, if anything he’s worse, Emil’s known to send demons to haunt, and mentally torture people who hurt people he’s close to. “I trust Emil with not only my life, but also the life of those girls. I would freeze the world over to protect those girls, and Emil would summon an army of demons if he thinks that those twins are any danger.” Alexander begins shaking in fear, at the barely veiled threat to his life. “I’m going to join the other three in the shower, I expect the books to be in their crates when I come out.” Lloyd barely remembers to grab his “fancy” clothes before he storms into the bathroom, startling Emil in the

Sitting at my desk, I stared down at my schoolwork while my mind remained static. Suddenly, I found myself beginning to radiate golden light as my body faded from existence; then before I knew it, I rematerialized out of thin air. This does not happen often, so I was rather confused as I stood atop a cloud, high up in the sky. That is, until I noticed a large, human-like figure appear before me in a holy light. He raised his hands and smiled down at me before bellowing out, “Behold, for it is I; Gabe Newell!”…

Christopher White's left eye resembled an artist's palette, the skin around it a conflation of colors; sickly purple fading into muddled yellow into flaring red. The swelling had dissipated with the help of some embrocation his mother supplied him with, as well as a bag of frozen peas. Although the bruise, gifted to him by his brother Andy, was healing, it still looked tender and painful. Shortly before Andy had given his younger brother the black eye, he had initiated a dangerous dalliance with a rather beautiful girl who smelled like petrichor and daisies and whose name was as soft and delicate as the petals of a tea rose. Underneath her earthy and seemingly pleasant smell, though, Christopher could pick up a nauseatingly sour, spicy sweetness…

The traditional hero’s journey begins with a calling, the hero is drawn to certain circumstances in which they must decide whether or not to accept the quest. However, the feminine journey differs, instead the protagonist determines there is something about their life that must change, and only they themselves, through their own free will, can resolve it. Characters such as Alba, Fa Mulan/ Kingston, and Rahel take the challenge to tackle their deepest psychological issues while simultaneously confronting the patriarchy and political corruption. These female authors successfully preserve the female voice and challenge patriarchal culture through their use of mystical realism (Jenkins). Beginning with The God of Small Things, the vulnerable…
