The Tension Between Lavendria And Poseidon

Improved Essays
Long ago in the deep, blue oceans and the boundless seas near Greece, peace did not exist in the waters. Two siblings, Lavendria and Poseidon, were enemies who did not love one another, like brother and sister should. The two fought like cats and dogs, constantly nagging at one another. The urge to start a fight was uncontainable, similar to brawls between the two common house pets. Poseidon, god of the sea and earthquakes, specifically ruled over the Mediterranean Sea. He lived there on a daily basis and protected all sea animals. His younger sister, Lavendria, was also an immortal goddess, who ruled the Atlantic Ocean, which happened to be the ocean that the Mediterranean flowed into. Lavendria was the goddess of tsunamis, and she looked …show more content…
When the god of the sea gets stuck in a war with his own sister, it causes a negative effect on all creatures who depended on Poseidon, and same goes for those under the protection of Lavendria. The feud between the two siblings hurt Vendona majorly. She cringed at the awful thoughts of war and conflict. Vendona could not stand the thought of two family members fighting nonstop. She tried countless times to resolve the never ending feud between her mother and uncle. Vendona spent a majority of her time working out issues between the organism in opposing bodies of …show more content…
It seems harmless!” observed Poseidon. “Wow! I love it, and I have never seen anything like it before. Let 's give it a name,” suggested Lavendria.
“Good idea. Let’s create more of this object, so the your whole ocean can enjoy it!”
Using their special powers that the god and goddess had in possession, they created a multitude of the unknown substance. The siblings made it into all different shapes and sizes, and dispersed the rock like clumps all over the ocean.
“We still need to name it,” stated Poseidon.
“Hmmmmm. I have it. How about seashells! Since we can’t place this foreign substance into your sea, we can name it in your honor. It will remain in my ocean, but we will call them seashells.”
“That is a great idea. I love it,” concluded Poseidon, as the two finally swam back to their family.
Everyone lived happily ever after, and seashells still exist on the earth today thanks to Lavendria and Poseidon. The shells represent the peace that came about whenever the two siblings ended their personal war. The seashells lie on the beach and float freely through the ocean, to show the calmness that came to the waters on the beautiful, sunny day that Poseidon and Lavendria ended their

Poseidon’s anger, however, derived from the fact that Odysseus was disloyal to him and not the actual reason he was disloyal. It was Odysseus rage towards Polyphemus that caused him to go against the god due to the fact that Polyphemus had eaten two of Odysseus’ crewmembers. It was not Odysseus’ pride against the cyclops which led him to insult his father, but instead his own anger for what the cyclops had done. Thus, Odysseus’ rage caused him to be disloyal to…

Throughout the book, there were many immortals and creatures who hoped to deviate Odysseus from his crucial mission, such as Polyphemus, a giant Cyclops. However, Poseidon was the main opponent of Odysseus, and this was primarily due to Odysseus blinding Poseidon’s son, Polyphemus. After Odysseus and his crew struck Polyphemus’s eye, they tried to escape. Although they were successful in doing so, Polyphemus was outraged, and he wanted his father, Poseidon, to avenge him. “‘Let him lose all companions, and return under strange sail to bitter days at home.’” (Homer, 161) Shortly after Odysseus and his crew had blinded Polyphemus, Polyphemus apprised Poseidon of what happened, and he told Poseidon Odysseus should lose all his crewmates.…

I have never understood the ways of my brothers and sisters- the manner in which they seem to enjoy cavorting amongst mortals, wreaking fruitless havoc and terror, their fickle moods lending them to senseless fits of temper, utter disregard for the cries of beasts and men. Even Poseidon, great earth-enfolder, once too was keen on destroying Odysseus, that man of twists and turns, forcing him, in his capricious wrath, into exile on a meager sea-encircled island. It has always been my belief that men should govern their own fates; for if we gods decide for them, are we not scorning their capacity for whatever perception they may possess? After all, were they not fashioned in the likeness of us deathless gods, who rule the earth? Thus, are they…
