First thing I hear in the morning is my mom yelling "Aracely lla levantate floja [wake up lazy] and hurry up if you want to eat breakfast". Yeah I have Mexican parents but I was born here in the U.S. I find it funny when they speak Spanish and English in the same sentence.

Ugh great I 'm running late, no surprise there. The bus is going to be here in 20 minutes I still got some time I need to hurry if I don 't want to miss the it.

Good thing I took a shower the night before. I get to my bathroom and do my morning routine blah blah blah haha. What I wish was that my hair had some type of texture like it 's not straight nor curly or wavy it 's just normal if that makes sense. I put on a Gray t-shirt that has lace

Bye see you at lunch" And with that I walked away trying to hurry and get to class in time. Pushing some people along the way they just love to take their slow time.

I get to history class and see that almost everyone is there already. So I go ahead and take a seat at the back of the class near a window. "Alright class" Mr. Roberts says He 's middle age and is actually a pretty chill teacher he doesn 't really assign homework but he does expect you to work in class. "Today we will begin writing an essay on Pearl Harbor. I want it to be 2 pages long and you must have a citation along with it." The whole class sighs. Oh well I guess ehh Imma start on it tomorrow i 'm just going to write down a couple notes today.

"Aracely, can you come to my desk for a moment please?" Mr. Roberts asks me. What I wonder why? I don 't remember doing anything bad. I get up and got to his desk. "Yes

I walked through the dust and dirt to the familiar nondescript building I had come to know and love: Merek South in Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Trumpet case in hand, I pushed open the teal double doors and was met with a wall of sound. I felt the corners of my mouth rise and give birth to an excited grin as I walked past the percussion equipment and other trumpet players to the only open seat, which stood out in sharp contrast against the sea of blue polo shirts and navy blue pants--the required uniform of the camp. I had attended Blue Lake before, but now I was about to embark on their international exchange program, which would bring me to France, Germany, and Holland for five weeks during the Summer. “Are you Patrick from Maryland,” asked a girl in the middle of the section who I later learned was Julia.…

The words, “Pearl Harbor,” were etched into the conscience of Hawaii. Like the defeat of Grendel in Beowulf, the people pleaded and longed for the extermination of this enemy. Many American people, and even officials turned to abhorrence. Confinement camps were established all over the country, some of which even being in the state in which the class resides in: Arkansas. Racial slurs and slang became almost an oral tradition of their own, and as common as a kenning in an Old English text.…

Cedarbrook Middle School, 3rd period, the clock had just struck 10:15 am. My eyes were extremely tired and I couldn't get my mind to focus. I kept staring out the window wondering why the clear blue sky went away and these wet drops called rain began to rapidly fall. As I was gazing upon the rain I heard this faint voice in the distance. “Heather”....”Heather”.....…

I walk into the red brick building of Sacajawea Middle School. I heave the door open and set foot into the eventful day coming. The commons are buzzing as usual like bees frantically trying to collect their honey. The lockers slamming shut, the laughing, footsteps, and hushed whispers morph into a gentle murmur encasing me. I walk up to my friends Jayden and Rachel, who are laughing at one of the many puns that flutter through the halls.…

“Never a day goes by for all these many years when I haven’t thought about it,” Stratton, one of nine still-living Pearl Harbor survivors remembers. “I don’t talk about it too much, but when December rolls around, I do. It’s important the American people don’t forget. ”(“Dodd”). On December 7, 1941, the Japanese launched a surprise attack on the US Naval Base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.…

It’s the calm of the morning, and I’m tired. The smooth and curving edges of the trail entertain my eyes as I hike towards my goal, the summit of Mt. Hyndman. It’s a kind trail, made of a cluster of aromas and a collage of colors. Sagebrush and young saplings add to the sensation of the vista. Sharp crackles occur beneath my feet as insects scamper around, frantically searching for minute fissures to conceal themselves in.…

With today 's education system, there are many different ways to define the perfect essay, so many, in fact, that educators believe that students are unable to write academically. Lea and Street 's Student Writing in Higher Education: An Academic Literacies Approach, discusses the difference between what is expected from students in higher education and how to help students improve their writing practices. By performing the research project entitled “Perspectives in Academic Literacies: an Institutional Approach,” Lea and Street are able to get a look at these issues more in depth. By including both students and faculty in the study, there will be additional viewpoints to work off of to improve the research, demonstrating that the sharing of information is vital for the success of student writing.…

My writing process is similar to the typical high schooler, except like the typical high schooler I have no idea what my process is. Having to slow down and think about your process before writing can be complicated due to the fact that I am thinking about what I doing naturally. Hopefully I will be able to fully break down my process and use what I learn from that to improve my writing. My process starts with me focusing on a prompt whether it’s given to me or I have to create one myself.…

Overall, the student also understands the words he or she needed to write to convey their idea. During the spring break of my sophomore year of high school, I was given the opportunity to volunteer with A.E Finley YMCA. I had been going to the YMCA since I could talk and walk, and I was thrilled to be given the opportunity. However, this wasn’t normal volunteering at the YMCA 2 miles down the road, it was a volunteer mission trip in Lima, Peru. At that point in my life, I never even thought about anywhere outside of Raleigh. I had been to Pittsburgh, PA to visit family, but that was the extent to my travels.…

When I was younger my writing consisted of many errors just like any normal elementary schooler. I remember in first grade we had a stuffed animal bear everyone got to take home one weekend and write about all the things we did with this bear. As I look back on my writing from back then I laugh because of all the misspelled words and sentences that just did not make sense at all! As I went through school teachers always had us to different writing assignments and with everyone I watched my writing get stronger and more sophisticated.…

If you were to ask me about my high school writing experience, I would tell you that I did not have much experience. We did not have any classes at my school that were specifically writing classes. At my high school, we just had regular English classes where we would occasionally do a few papers in. My English teacher senior year was a great person, but did not necessarily teach us a lot about proper styles of writing papers. Coming into college English, I did not feel well prepared with what to expect for a college level writing class.…
