She complies with my prying by saying, “Yeah, I guess I did tell her that, didn’t I? But that was for her benefit, the less she knows about me and the Alliance the better.” “So, that was all a lie

Twenty-two years ago, I was lucky enough to call Pittsboro, North Carolina my home for the first time. Unbeknownst to me, this small rural town would play such an enormous role in who I am today. From a first kiss to pig pickings, Pittsboro was full of life and opportunities. My family, farming, and the culture here consequently affected how I view the world today. Though I may not get to spend as much time in Pittsboro, my roots will always be in this town.…

Reading Response: How Coyote Sent the White Girl Home It can be easy to get lost in this essay. It doesn't take you on a strictly chronological journey. To be honest, I had to read through this essay twice before I really understood (probably not the whole concept) what was going on. Once I got past the layout of the story and got to the message, I found it to be a very relatable and beautiful one. I came from, what was then, a smaller farming town.…

That’s right, I said it! If you read the title, then you would know that I, Liberty Rockhold, just called Illinois the worst state ever! Now I could start listing the reasons why, no capital punishment, taxes, and Chicago are only a few, but I’ll save you the time. Instead, I’m just going to talk about the first part of the title, the move. Me ranting over why Illinois is a horrible state, or me telling the story of when I moved to this horrid state.…

There are three types of identity crisis: a temporary change of identity; no change at all, and a permanent change that isn’t reverted. Looking at the classic novels An Inspector Calls by J.B Priestly and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, we can see these are present in their characters. Of Mice and Men was first published in 1937, it is a poignant tale of a remarkable friendship between two peripatetic workers in the Great Depression years of 1930’s America. George is a small hardworking man and Lennie is his large, primitive friend; they both share a dream for land of their own; but when they find work on a California’s Salinas Valley, the dream is pushed to the utmost limit. An Inspector Calls was first published in 1992 by Tim Bezant;…

She delivers a plethora of trivial information that stems from the sole fact that she is from the same region of which she is talking about. She grew up in North Dakota, the most “unimpressive” region in the United States (L. 36). The audience are citizens of the United States who are most definitely inclined to believe everything she says because of where she hails from, giving in to her reputation and credibility as a midwestern author. Actually, she begins the passage with a specific detail only one familiar with the Midwest would know: “Driving west from Fargo on I-94” (L.1). This, right off the bat, establishes the notion that this woman knows exactly what she is talking about.…

I became increasingly desperate to give someone I felt comfortable with a buzz as the evening wore on, and finally worked up some goddam courage to call Phoebe. I told you about her, you would’ve really liked her. She was somebody you always felt like talking to on the phone. As risky as it was, I had to give it a shot; my current state of behavior warranted enough reasoning. As soon as I heard the soothing, calm tone of her voice, I was able to immediately relax and breathe easily.…
