Upon a black and cold midnight in the town of Astoria, a young 13 year old girl is running home. The pitter-patter of her footsteps echoes across the still, quiet land. It was almost as if a blanket covered the world, the only light was from the bright and big full moon. The darkness wraps around her as she hurries, but then, right as she runs past the light beige clock tower, it chimes thrice. “Midnight.” she thought. She gazes up at the towering, majestic turret, but sees something else. A racing shadow on the top balcony, “how strange.” she muttered. She stops upon the gravel road and watches, the long, thin oval shadow bouncing up and down and moving left to right. The shadow slants sideways and travels lower, obscuring part of the brilliant, roman numeral timepiece.
So intrigued and curious, she wanders away from the gravel path and onto the soft, wet grass, her eyes still fixed on the silhouette looming upon the tower. She had never climbed the tower, but knew how. The girl crawled into a small, rectangular hole from the backside of the tower. She watched it for a minute, dancing across the page, spilling ink. It was magical, almost unreal. She looked at the page to see what the pen was writing and she was astonished. The pen seemed to have a mind of its own! It was writing about real life events. Turning the pages so carefully, as to not disturb the beautiful pen, she noticed that each page was a day. She remembered the time when her orange cat, Tabby died. Flipping back pages in time, she was astounded, the girl found writing that portrayed her and her family crying while they buried the poor cat in the yard. “But how, how could the magic pen see that happen or know.” she
