Chicken Soup For The Soul Book Reflection

Improved Essays
When I was a child I had two books from the *Chicken Soup For The Soul* series. If you've never heard of this series, they are books containing short stories that warm you up inside. Chicken Soup books have heartwarming stories to inspire readers and to help them appreciate good events and people in their lives.

November 12th is National *Chicken Soup For The Soul* Day and it was formed to recognize the little moments in life that make you happy and close to the people you love. On this day people should share stories about life events that impacted them and made them feel loved, changed in a positive way, or made them feel inspired.

Dr. Honeycutt noticed me and realized I was smart. I didn't often get praise but he made sure to show me he was happy to hear when I did get all A's. The times I wasn't doing as well he knew the right thing to do to motivate me. All I needed was a little attention and recognition to want to try. A grumpy, serious man knew that and showed me he cared by using his unique personality to give me the push to do well in school that I needed.

Go Dogs Go, not only is memorized into my brain, but is sitting on my bookshelf with tape holding the cover on, and the color of the illustrations fading every day, no longer the color they were. On page 5, I can still notice the cheesy, Cheetos fingerprint, even though my mother always told me to wash my hands after I finished eating, and before reading. Not only did I have memories with your book, I had journeys. Every time I listened to the book or as I mumbled, and stuttered, trying each word until I was old enough to fluently read this child’s book. Journeys flooding into my imagination as each word was spoken, or as each dog crossed the page.…

Jessica Risner Heather Ward English 1101-41 October 5, 2015 “Love You Forever” Literary Analysis One of my favorite stories to read to my daughter is “Love You Forever” by Robert Munsch. The story is about a mother who sneaks into her son’s room, once he is sleeping, and sings a song to him. She sings to him these words “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be (pg. 14).” My favorite part about this story is that once her son is a teenager, and even a grown adult, she still sneaks into his room and sings her song to him.…

In Jennifer Grossman’s essay “Food for Thought (and for Credit)” states that home economics should be reinstated as a mainstream program in our schooling system because of the rising obesity epidemic in modern society. Home economics is very important in creating a healthier and more knowledgeable a generation. In the past participating in a home-ec class is exceedingly more common than it is today, however, this was not without its drawbacks. She says this program was mainly used to teach women how to be proper housewives. As time passed, our culture has come to a position that women are less often housewives and more part of the everyday work force, making general knowledge of home-ec more crucial to our everyday lives.…

As a child, I remember my grandma reading me The Little Engine that Could every time I visited her house. Which may seem slightly odd that, that’s what I enjoyed as a kid. It quickly led to me writing in school. During kindergarten, we were all about writing our own books. For example, I ended that year with 22 books.…

Walter Johnson wrote Soul by Soul, Life Inside the Antebellum Slave Market in 1999. The book contains 283 pages and was part of our required reading for American History 132. Johnson takes a unique approach to discussing and describing the slave trade in New Orleans. He doesn’t focus on famous people or try to tell a story, instead, he looks at the slave trade from three different perspectives; the slave trader, the buyer, and the slave. Johnson uses slave narratives, court records and bills of sales along with letters that were written by slaveholders to help with telling of the slave trade in the lower South.…

I recall as an elementary student reading my favorite series of all times Junie B. Jones. I was going through so much as a child that reading was the only way I could cope with my feelings. I learned the true meaning of struggle at a young age; life was very difficult at the time for me personally. I was not the type to talk about how I was feeling. I kept everything in, which was not good for my well being.…

I have lived a blessed life filled with many great days. I have several of these days that particularly stick out in my mind such as the day my brother was born, the first day of my seventh grade play, the evening when I graduated, and the birth of my niece at four in the morning, but the day I hold above all of these was the day I spent with my extended Sanders family at the Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City. The first reason why I treasure this day exceedingly much is that it was spent with a family that I have never gotten to see regularly. The Sanders family is heavily involved in Christian ministry.…

Thanksgiving is the special time of year when families come together to enjoy each other's presence and say thanks for all the gifts they have been given. Which is what makes Thanksgiving one of my most favorite holiday's. Thanksgiving is a time for family to practice traditions and bond with good people, over good food. My favorite Thanksgiving dinner, and my favorite dining experience overall, happened 2 years ago at my Aunts house. This Thanksgiving dinner is my favorite because my great aunt and uncle were visiting from Florida that week, and we only get to see them every couple of years.…

For some students, choosing to attend college after high school is an easy decision. Some are expected by their families to continue into higher education post high school graduation. I know a few people that are so motivated to attend college that they already know for sure what they are going to major in before they were even freshmen in high school. For me, I was not falling into that category. College was something I did not consider throughout my time in high school.…

Was there ever a time you didn’t like to do something, but as you got older you started to love it more than you did as a child? When I was younger, I never liked to read, but now as I have gotten older, I read more and more different kinds of books and novels. My mother put my sister and me into a reading program in elementary school because our reading levels were lower than they should be. There were no criteria so we read books that were interesting to us, like the Given Tree by Shel Silverstein and Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White. When we finished reading them we would go around and talk about the book we read.…
