The last short story, “Caroline’s Wedding”, is about a girl named Caroline getting married
and her sister and her are seeing her off. Her past has a major effect on her present. Unlike her
older sister, Caroline was born in the United States. Her older sister, Gracina or Grace as people
call her, was born back in Haiti. Due to this she was raised differently and in a more harsh
environment. Living in Haiti around the 1969 time period was hard to do especially for someone
that was her age at the time. This made Grace strong just like her mother and father. Caroline
would not be considered weak but she did have it easier than her sister because she did not have
to go through the same trials and tribulations that Grace did and because she
