Short Story Callings By Dave Amy

Callings by Dave Isay helps me imagine the life I want to lead by showing me the passion and commitment people have for the work they perform. Each short story told in callings contains a reason why work is important to that particular person and how he or she got to that point in their life, whether it was easy to find what they wanted to do or hard. Each story had something meaningful to draw from, but there were four stories in particular that stuck out the most. The first story that stuck out the most is Hospice Chaplain, where a daughter is lying at her father's deathbed and she is holding his hand when he takes his last breath, and she describes it as beautiful and relaxing. This reminded me of one of the reasons why I want to go into nursing. The day I lost my dog I was with him. I remember when he took his last breath and I too found it so relaxing and peaceful because I know he lived a great life and I was with him through every part of it. That moment really solidified my knowing of what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. …show more content…
Although it doesn't tie into the medical field which I am entering it shows the struggle of a man who can't figure out what he wants to do for the rest of his life and tries many different jobs and even after dozens of jobs too many to count he finally finds the one he loves and it ends up being a street corner astronomer .I relate to this because when I was younger I too wasn't sure about what I wanted to do for the rest of my life ut after reading about the countless stories not just the street astronomers I realize that I am not alone and many people take a long time to find the job they love and all it takes is some patience and
