A Girl With a Story
There she was sitting in the room waiting patiently for my arrival. She had dark curly hair; so curly it made you think she got a perm. She had a face that was as white as snow. She seemed like a truly fine individual. I open the door and greeted her immediately with a handshake. We were on the third floor in the library of Texas Woman’s University, in a study room that was so small and warm. I could tell she was just as nervous as I was. I mentioned to her that she was brave individual for telling me her story, and if she did not want to speak of certain topics she did not have to do so. She responded, “I do not mind, all I ask for is to stay anonymous,” (personal communication, September 22, 2015).
Her story is about a

He voice began to sound shaky; I looked at her eyes and noticed that they were watery. From there I knew that what she was about to tell me was something horrible.
He had tackled her for the laptop. Luckily she had her phone and was able to call the cops. Before the arrival of the police he shot a bullet in the sky. Eventually the cops arrived and arrested him and charged him for stalking and possession of a stole gun. “Months passed and I felt horrible, I fell into depression thinking this was all my fault and when he gets out he is going to hurt my family,” (personal communication, September 22, 2015).

One day, she reached out to me and we started reconnecting. I recognized how vulnerable she must have felt reaching out to me as an old friend whom she has not been close with in recent years. It took quite a lot of time, patience and support in order for her to feel comfortable and safe to share with me. As I expressed my vulnerable side, it allowed her to see me for who I truly was before she was able to become vulnerable and express how the relationship has affected her. She expressed feelings of shame, unworthiness and fear.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

I believe that not one single event truly signified the life-long transition from childhood to adulthood in my life, rather my view of the world and those around me changed drastically as I aged.…
