Someone told me there was a fire on my floor, but I couldn’t possibly think that the fire was from my apartment. So I went up to the third floor, where I lived on and the halls were smoke-filled. When I got to my door, I did see that smoke was coming from my apartment. I panicked for a few moments, and tried to open the door, however, I couldn’t open the door because someone already broke the door knob. I was shook and scared because I thought

In “The meaning of King Holiday” Dr. King’s wife, says that MLK day should be a day of service. “What she means by that is how can others others serve after graduating and entering the “adult” world?” Well like MLK he didn't know what to do with his life after graduating and yet after his lifetime all races have equal rights. History unlocks the doors to the past and holds the key for the future. History has always intrigue my state of mind. It leads me to ponder the question “What if I lived in this era?” I have always imagined living in an unconventional time due to the fact, of living through a historical moment. I would have enjoyed viewing Martin Luther King, I Have a Dream speech or living through the Gold Rush; but above all notions I would of truly enjoyed living in Los Angles in the early 1900’s.…

On December 27th, 2007, me and a friend of mine were between 8-9 years old just 2 days after Christmas. We were excited to meet up and show off anything new we were blessed with 2 days prior to the incident. We were at his house playing with WWE action figures until he pulled out a pack of sparklers. This is when the real fun began and one by one we lit up a sparkler, poking holes in stuffed animals and having the irresponsible fun of playing with fire and fireworks. Back as a 9 year old, I thought we had it under control, nothing to be worried about because we knew how to use sparklers.…

I walked to the front door to look through the peep hole but, due to my five foot stature, all I could see was the top of my porch. I listened quietly through the door. I never answered the door when I was home alone, some habit I had gotten after being reminded by my mother a thousand times, and I had a system worked out with my friends that they would yell through the door if it was them. I waited patiently but I heard nothing but flies buzzing and dogs parking from far away. I started to walk back to the office, chalking it up to the neighborhood kids when I heard my back gate open.…
