Professional challenges affect everyone everywhere, especially in the nursing field. This paper shows the effects of short staffing that the world faces today. Challenges associated with short staffing such as extreme stress, burn outs, and increased nosocomial infections. Due to the numerous anticipated retirements in the year 2022, there will be about 500,000 openings, especially for registered nurses. Some negative consequences of short staffing would be lower portion of patient care, medication errors, and self-harm on the nurse and also increased patient to nurse ratios.
