Personal Narrative-Dependent On Christmas

It was 7:50. I had mopped myself out the front door. I started taking the boxes around the house. I could only get half of them at a time. Got to the side walk, the white lights were shining very bright and gleaming on my freshly cleaned pearl white Lincoln Continental sitting on the street. I swear I heard that car hum as I went by. I said don’t worry I got you a free oil change for Christmas. On my second trip, around, I stopped and picked out a real, nice medium red bow and attached it to the front grill of the car. I stood back to make sure the bow was straight and secure. Finished outside and headed back to the house.

It was 8:30pm. I knew in about an hour I would be calling mission complete. On time and ahead of Christmas eve. I was feeling very proud as I moved my desk parallel to the wall and covering with a crumpled sheet. On the sheet, I developed a scene with Santa dashing towards an old farm house in a field of snow. In the background, I put a plastic train that was glued to a 24” track. These were oddity things I pick-up over the years. They were battery operated with motion detectors. Any motion in the room,

I fired one up and began sipping on my toddy. Looking around thinking of anything I may have forgot, I remembered the 6 electric air fresheners I had purchased earlier in the month, they were under the kitchen sink in a bag. They had a smell of pine tree and cinnamon. I placed 1 in my son’s room, 1 in the bathroom, 2 in the kitchen and 2 in the front room. Then returned to the table to finish my break. Sitting there I guess I had an epiphany of sorts. I was about to complete one of the best decoration projects I have ever undertaken. I kept looking at the one plate set-up at the head of the table. It was a bittersweet revelation. Somehow, deep in my conscious I knew, I did not intend to be there for Christmas. The one plate setting made me realize

Essay Christmas is a time where families come together to share in the christmas joy. Richard Rodrigues shows the negative impact of a newly wealthy family, and the change in the dynamic that the material success has brought. The once proud parents who always wanted success for their children have seen less and less of their kids, and the effect of that is conveyed in the detailed interaction between the members of their family. Sibling’s success that allows them to buy such expensive items has taken them away from their family and holidays have become a routine rather than a genuine interaction. Rodriguez himself also notices the emptiness in their relationship both between himself and his parents and everyone as a unit.…

I miss them already. Despite the freezing cold snow and the nipping air, we had a lovely Christmas break. As I inspect my child, now grown with children of her own, holding tickets back to their home, longing envelopes me. Hoards of people push past, unaware of my pain, on their own schedules and heading toward different trains, talking and texting on their cell phones. My family boards, time as if in slow-motion, and waves goodbye until I see them again.…

Thanksgiving Extra-Credit Assignment My family has never been big on the holidays- I almost always spend them at a friend’s home. This year, I went to my friend Alex’s home for Thanksgiving alongside my friend Jay. Alex and Jay are frankly some of the greatest friends I can ask for, and going in to thank them I knew they would take it light-heartedly and make a joke out of it. Christmas break in my opinion is probably the second best brake that we have throughout our school year. The main thing I like about Christmas break is how long it is. But even though I like how long we are off school it's almost like we don't have a break because basketball takes over. We get a few days off but the rest of the days are hitting the gym early in the mornings for two to three hours a day. The days I have is the best thing in the world because I get to relax and do something fun for once.…
