Willie Prat a nineteen year old African American male from North lawndale was shot April 30th, 2016. He was shot on the South side of Central Park Avenue. Police reported that he was shot “in the chest, his side, and left leg”. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical conditions and was pronounced dead on Monday two days after the incident.
Darrel Wilson a twenty four year old African American male from North lawndale was found dead on April 24, 2016 at 12:48 a.m. He was from from the Southern side of Central Avenue. His body was found in a car at Douglas Park. Police say that he has a recorded history of gang related activity.

My theory of the individuals having a unique environment that influences the killings correlates with what the journalists Ian Parrell talks about in this movie because there seems to be a huge emphasize to this idea of being used to this violent environment and how they need to take part of it. They’ve adapted to the surroundings and act almost out of control to protect themselves and loved ones. For example Steven Bennefield a Southside Chicago resident stated “ we actually don’t like the way that we live, but when you are pushed into a way of life, when you are forced into a way of life how else can you live?”. The violent surroundings for African Americans has become a way of living and they’ve learned how to stay alive and what they must do in order to stay alive.
