In the short story “The last dog” by Katherine Patterson, a young boy named Brock chooses to leave the dome. While out there, he finds a dog and brings it back to the dome. The lesson that I learned from this story is to follow your own instincts. I liked this book because the main character is interesting, and is an adventurist. The plot is a bit weird, but overall it was a good story. Brock decided to leave the dome to do research. Outside, he finds a real dog next to its dead mother. He names it Brog, and he takes it back to the dome. Scientists threaten to clone the dog, so Brock pretends that the dog has rabies. He bites the dog’s tail so the dog bites him. He gets permission to take the dog outside again. The plot connects to the theme
