Her dreams were shattered because she was born a black woman. Katherine Johnson is an African-American woman who wanted to be an engineer when she grew up. She ended up working for NASA (National Aeronautics Space Administration) as a “computer” and helped with the desegregation of West Virginia State College. Katherine Johnson was born on August 28, 1918, at White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia as Katherine Coleman.Katherine Johnson was the youngest of the four children. Katherine started to attend school and she graduated high school at the age of 14 (Wikipedia). She then attended West Virginia State College and got a degree in mathematics and french.
