Baby farming was the practice of taking care of babies that were not wanted by their parents in exchange for money. This practice was very common in England, Britain. The baby farmers would end up killing them in many ways. Sometimes they would even die because it would be overcrowded and would not be taken care of in an appropriate way.("Baby Farming." Amelia Elizabeth Dyer was born in Bristol, England in 1837. She grew up with two brothers and a sister. Her parents names were Samuel and Sarah Hobley. Her father was a famous shoemaker. As for her mother, she had a mental illness. This affected Amelia's childhood. Her mother would often act violently which would obligate Amelia to take care of her. She took care of her mother until she died in 1848. Although she learn to read and loved literature, she never had the opportunity to use it in her childhood. Eventually around her late 20's she married her husband George Thomas. He was older than she was which in their case they lied about their age so they could get married. People thought that she would be convicted of manslaughter. The experience of being in jail for six month almost destroyed her mental state. While in jail she tried many times to commit suicide. When she served her six months in jail, she began continue with nursing as her career in which her case was baby farming. She abused alcohol and drugs such as opiates.
