Earlier this morning, a photojournalist captured photos of an intoxicated man shooting aimlessly at people passing by the local grocery store, killing three and injuring twelve. Around 6:30am, just before sunrise, a presumably intoxicated man was swearing and grasping a gun in his left hand. “The man was screaming and swearing but his words were slurred” said Tabitha Smith, a bystander. There were few people at the Walmart Super Center on Market Street but that only seemed to play in favor for the perpetrator. Among the people at the local grocery store happened to be an upcoming photojournalist, Jeffrey Miller.…

It’s been a couple day since the shooting had happened in Las Vegas as the most devastating attack and the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Las Vegas mass shooter Stephen Paddock rented a room in downtown Las Vegas through Airbnb at Mandalay Bay a couple days earlier before the Concert. Marilou Danley (the girlfriend) said that she was worried that her boyfriend, Stephen Paddock, was going to break up with her when he bought her a cheap ticket to the Philippines about two weeks ago, then wired her money to buy her and her family a house there. But Danley, in a statement read by her attorney, said she didn't know Paddock had planned to carry out a mass shooting. When the shootout had happened the night of the concert, Paddock killed 58 people and wounded more than 500 people in Las Vegas on Sunday night, Danley said Paddock -- a man she described as "kind" -- never gave her any clues or any warning "that something horrible like this was going to happen.…

The article I have chosen for this reflection paper is “Look Out Kid, It’s Something You Did,” written by Bernadine Dohrn in 2013. This article details the criminalization of children as it has progressed over the past few decades. It opens with examples of school shootings and how they have shifted the public perspective of violence perpetrated by adolescents. With the proliferation of handguns in the homes of adolescents within the United States, the rates of children murdered by other children have skyrocketed. I feel there is a strong aspect of shock value when it comes to instances like these, which draws a disproportionate amount of media attention, but this does not account for the staggering results of cases of this nature.…

The use of deadly force is back in the spotlight after several controversial killings of unarmed suspects by the police. Deadly force, according to the law, is force which a reasonable person would consider likely to cause death or serious bodily harm (“Use Of Deadly”, 2015). It should only be used when there is no other option and police are authorized to use it only in certain circumstances (“Use Of Deadly”, 2015). There are a massive number of semi-automatic weapons in the hands of criminals and citizens, which create a threat to national and law enforcement authority, and many deceptive practices.
