Reading Response #3 Shootings & Mass Killings in the U.S.: Masculinity, Masculinity, Masculinity In the article, “Shootings” the author Adam Gopnik it is part of everyone life that there always are the risk of being danger where every you go to the shopping malls, the schools, at the political events, in people workplaces, in a movie theater or other different location. No matter the shootings are they always at the school shootings. Life is unpredictable one minute you are on earth and the next you are dead. Our lives are very precious in our every single day and shouldn’t be granted. Also we have second Amendment it is approve of ownership the guns and protect U.S. people from not taking the guns away them. The restrict background check might be important for U.S. people to train for using guns by going to shooting range. Second restrict would be U.S. people shouldn’t be in a group called ‘prohibited group’ means the mental ill, criminals, children or other people in the U.S. who had committed the violence crime that the police have record or show the threated of the life of others. Gopnik is saying that it is harder to talk about the school shootings, not aloud to talk about it or it is wrong time to mention of school shootings.
Gopnik wanted to ban the handguns. The problems of ban the handguns are all criminals would either steal the guns or a way to always get the guns for free. He thought Americans should debate about the school shootings instead ignoring the topic. The schools could have training at their schools to prepare for the shootings. Another way is to have background check for the ownership, tracking the guns, banned on the automatic assault weapon and to prevented other mental ill people to not able to buy the guns. The ‘alpha males’ it is a dominant position, status, and leadership. The ‘alpha males’ is top dog in their packs in wolves or dogs. It is a ranking and strong strength that compete to impress their women or to climb up the rankings. Chemaly by killing women because of being ‘alpha males’ vs. ‘beta males’ will give the other white men a disgrace to their name. For example, Elliot Rodger wanted to kill all the women for reject him. Rodger was ‘beta males’ who wasn’t popular among all other women. Women have instinct which men are ok and which one who is off by their strange behaviors. Rodger was autism when he was young kid and when he was teens and adult he shows have depressed and anxiety.
