First, I read the “George Orwell: Overview” and found that Orwell wrote in such a way that he wouldn’t come between the reader and the announced events. In addition, this article states, “trying to eliminate any self-conscious style, Orwell became one of the great English Writers of his time”. Another article describes Orwell as “blunt, contentious, but fundamentally honest”. More specifically, this article speaks about Orwell's writing, “Shooting an Elephant”. This short story was well written by being short and to the point. Orwell described some characters and their background but then got to the climax of the story quickly. I have to agree that this writing was blunt but honest as well. In Shooting an Elephant, Orwell made the writing seem like it was just another story. However, if you analyze the writing then you know he was referring to imperialism and empires. Furthermore, Orwell's writing was extremely fictional with an important message. Orwell wrote in the modernism time period. Which focuses on stream of consciousness, first person and comparisons. Throughout this short story, I was able to focus on how well Orwell wrote with the “stream of consciousness”. His thought flowed and jumped from time to time but it made sense with what his message was within the
