Shoes Sheet-Personal Narrative

“Shoes off”. The is the scariest phrase for someone who is insecure about their feet. Somehow, I’ve always found myself in awkward situations associated with my feet and Asian friends. Looking back at the time when I went to my friend Hannah’s house, I myself knew the protocol. T.O.Y.S. Take off your shoes. Entering an Asian household is trickier than it may seem. We were friends, so should I worry about my feet? Rewind back to seventh grade, a neighborhood friend pointed out my feet. Wearing the bamboo swag-dals I was stylin, he asked me, “Why do your feet look like that? They’re sticking out from the sides”. Oh Josh, you chose the wrong words.
As a socially awkward pre-teen, I was quite confused. I thought they were totally normal, until I asked my older sister Armi, “What is wrong with my feet?”. Before we talk about the life lesson she had taught me, we’re going to rewind

Just laugh about it”.
Looking at her as if she was a genius, her harsh-toned voice ignited some sort of amazement, projecting through my eyes. I stepped outside, feeling as if I was being filmed in a tree-filled forest during the self-reflection scene of a movie and stood there wondering, why do I care? Why do human beings care about their insecurities? Why do we worry about what others think? Why do I have funky feet? Is there really a relevant reason to this self-judgement, critiquing every single abnormality we possess?
Using the most cliché answer, we possess these traits because they are what makes us, us. There are people who love you, take care of you, and appreciate your existence, and your insecurities won’t stop them from doing that. I believe in laughing at our abnormalities and enjoy life because at the end of the day, we should be thankful for what we have and I am thankful for my fourteen toes. Just kidding, but that would be a hilarious plot

In 1859, Charles Darwin published his theory of evolution by natural selection, it states that organisms best adapted to their environment will thrive and reproduce more efficiently. In the 1870’s, an idea known as “Social Darwinism” inspired by Darwin’s theory came to public attention; this was the idea that certain characteristics could determine a person's social success. In today’s society, people strive for social acceptance and contort themselves in order to conform to what is socially respectable, or go out of their way in order try to convince people to accept others. But at what point does this social contortionism become unhealthy and obsessive? The short story “G-String”, by Nicola Barker, revolves around the life of Gillian, a middle aged woman, and her romantic…

On April 24th 1992, I met a woman at a hospital in Los Angeles. The woman was sweet, loving, and smelt like Dior Dune perfume. Once I was cleared by the doctors, the woman took me to her apartment. When we arrived, I heard kids laughing as they splashed each other in the pool, and saw a group of older guys wearing bright red t-shirts with red shoe laces. I watched for a minute, absorbing everything in like a sponge.…

In my opinion, the theme of disappointment best describes Shoemaker’s life as written in this article. In as much as he has worked tirelessly to create celebrities, some of whom have featured in the Hall of Fame, he has never been personally recognized as the man behind the successes of these personalities. Furthermore, Shoemaker has made millionaires while undertaking a job in which he receives a meager salary of fifty thousand to seventy-five thousand dollars annually (Plaschke, 2015). He has been the architect of dozens of headlines that never mentioned his name. As if that is not enough, Shoemaker has established multiple light moments, which he can only observe from far.…

Proud Shoes: The Story of an American Family is a fascinating story told by Pauli Murray about her maternal grandparents, Robert and Cornelia Fitzgerald, and the realities of slavery, survival, and miscegenation in the South. The novel ranges from the pre-Civil War era through the Reconstruction ultimately narrowing in on racial segregation and how it affected interpersonal relationships and individuals. The racial segregation divided people significantly and impacted the gender roles people took on during this era, which is seen in the lives of Robert and Cornelia Fitzgerald.…

It was a friend’s house, and when I entered, my head was on a full swivel as I tried to take in all that was around me. The ornate Buddha in the corner looked similar to what I had seen on the cover of books; the neatly folded and piled blankets for meditation were in the corner; the faint smell of incense was coming from all corners of the room. To me it seemed like all these stereotypes in my head were all present in this one little house. I felt a weird sense of home there, because I recognized a lot of the Asian decorations in the house, but at the same time I felt so out of place because I only understood that decoration as an aesthetic entity. I realized how close and, at the same time, how far I am from my Asian culture because I grew up as an adopted…

I work at Payless so there are a few challenges that I face daily. Whether it be somebody else not doing their job, or them relying on me to do everything for them because I know what to do and I keep it as organized as I can. I am usually left with putting away all the new shoes that we get in. We get a lot of new shoes in on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am always the one who has to keep it organized by what style of shoe it is, what color it is, and most importantly what size depending on if it is a kids, womens, or mens shoe.…

Discuss the interplay between how individuals perceive themselves and how they are perceived by others. In his film Gattaca Andrew Niccol explored this dichotomy of people’s thoughts of us and our thoughts on ourselves. We would like to pretend we do not care how others perceive us; however, we have all secretly yearned to fit in somewhere, be it at work, school or at social gatherings. The way in which we see ourselves is heavily influenced by other people’s perceptions of us.…

A person’s body is what makes them who they are. Everyone is unique due to a physical trait they have. Even though everyone has a different opinion about what his or her perfect body would be, changing one’s physical features would take away from the uniqueness and specialty of that specific individual. I personally would never even think about getting plastic surgery for myself, because I really do not see any point of changing the way God created you, just so you become content with changing a part of your physical appearance. Whenever I look at myself, I don’t see someone who is too tall, hairy or ugly one bit.…
