A big part of his early years at Nike was his track coach Bill Bowerman, Bill Bowerman was also a co-founder of Nike. When Phil graduated he decided that he wanted to make his own shoe company so he travelled around the world to places like Greece and Vietnam and then japan to seek help from popular shoe company named Tiger. After several meeting with with the CEO he agreed to let Phil sell his shoes in America. It wasn’t a glamour job by any means he often sold shoes out the back of his trunk in the rainy winters of Oregon but he was starting his dream and that all that mattered to him. Shipments from Japan all of the sudden came to a halt and he wasn’t making money anymore even though he still had a contract with them.
