Shizuko Alternate Ending

The next morning, they wandered throughout the new village and resisted punching those who stared. Well, Shizuko had to. Kabuto and their teammates managed without trouble. Shizuko, however, was not used to having eyes on her unless she was giving an illusion, and even then, chances of her victims looking at her and not an illusion were slim.

Kabuto placed a hand on her shoulder, and said, “Keep your head down, otherwise someone may recognize you as your father.”

White fists lifted and one aimed for Kabuto’s side, the other for his face. The first twisted into him. Zero force went into it. Kabuto didn’t flinch as he caught her wrist before she could knock his glasses off. He let her go when her hand moved from his side and her muscles untensed.

He examined their surroundings, and all eyes were on them.

“And no fighting in the middle of the village,” he added. “Save what strength you have for the exams. You’ll need it.”

Shizuko shook as she took a few not-so-calming breaths. She took a step forward, and her group followed. Once out of view of those who stared, she tilted her head back in an unnatural position and said, “Never tell me to keep me head down again. Father may be gone, but I won’t take orders from you.”

Misumi shuddered at the sight, while Kabuto remained the same. He kept his mouth shut. He was stronger and capable of killing Shizuko, but that was a risk not worthy of taking.

Once to their destination, Shizuko smiled. Her first “mission”. She still couldn’t believe her father allowed her to enter without him being on the same team. Before Kabuto pushed open the door, she turned.

“Are you sure you can handle this?”

She bared fang with an ego-bloated chuckle. “You two proved your strength when you fought for me earlier. I think I’ll make it out

(A playful writing influenced by A. A. Milne’s ‘Winnie the Pooh and Beatrix Potter’ Stories) I gaze from my window to see a slight rustle in the conifers, picking up my binoculars with curiosity I notice a wood pigeon fluttering about; my imagination gets the better of me, thoughts rolled into a story. I don’t believe in happy endings; but I will try and write something with a good end to it and no better way can a story be brought to life than through the antics of wood pigeons. There was a group of eight pigeons and in that group there were five males and three females; I know the odds are not looking good for all the males and some will miss out and, of course, it is generally the weaker ones. It was spring, that time of year when…
