Response Paper to Shitty First Drafts The beginning of a writing assignment can be a daunting task, whether the work is for professional, scholastic, or entertainment purposes. The blank paper staring back at you as you sit and struggle to type or write down a coherent thought can be an exercise in frustration. The first draft takes the pressure off of the writer enough that he or she can list even the most basic and general ideas of the topic they are writing about and establish a foundation for the assignment. It allows the writer to escape the constraints of having to have their work be perfect the first time and provides them with material to expand upon in subsequent drafts.
