The Meiji era of Japan, which means the enlightenment era was a period of about forty-five years during the late 1800’s that Japan underwent a transformation from a isolated feudal society to a much more modern economically developed society. In the way, I think of the word enlightenment and what its meaning I personally would not call this a time of enlightenment in Japan but more of a step in the direction of creating a more viable and cohesive society.
