Shingles are caused by the varicella zoster virus. Also known as herpes zoster, these viruses does not cause cold sores, genital herpes or STD. It is the same virus that causes chicken pox. You can get it when you are exposed to the chicken pox virus or it’s really rare after you get the vaccination of the chicken pox. When a person recovers from the varicella virus, shingles can be in your nerve system. And you won’t even notice. They can start to reactivated whenever, it can be years. They like to be around the nerve cell cluster in the head and along the spine. If a person has shingles they can transmit the varicella zoster to a person that has a low immune system or never been immune to chicken pox. They’ll get the chicken pox
