Keen was furious and stomping down the hall. When Shimmer heard him mumbling under his breath that was her sign that their father didn’t say Shaylin was his Mate. “Keen, you want to talk?” Keen walked into Shimmer’s room collapsing with defeat onto her window seat. “I’m not going to do this. It’s not fair to any Mate, if I’m in-love with my Servant.” Shimmer walked over to sit next to her brother. “I have a secret; I’m going to leave two days before the Vampire Valentine party, and not come back until two days after.” Keen glanced over at his sister. “What are you talking about? You know Mother is going to have Father order us to be here, and once Father gives a command it has to be followed.” Shimmer smiled as she stood and walked around her …show more content…

When she was sure no one was listening she continued. “Because later that night right before sunrise I heard them talking about Father not being able to order his own children.” Keen was not so sure it wasn’t only Shimmer that their father’s orders didn’t work on. “It was most likely only you his orders didn’t work on.” Shimmer cleared her throat and proclaimed, “There is only one way to find out.” Keen nodded his head, “No Shimmer, I’m not going to bite a human to see if Father’s orders worked on me.” Shimmer shrugged her shoulders, “Fine, then you can stay here and meet your …show more content…

Rae cursed under her breath, “And Keen will follow Shimmer.” River glanced down, “What was that love.” Rae smiled though River could see it was not real, Rae replied, “Nothing, however, I fear Meg is right.”
Shimmer started giggling when she heard the news; her father could not order them as his children. This was great news for her. She was hiding in the secret passage behind the bookcase. She had found it one day while following Shadow around the house. She wanted to know how he got from one place to another without walking down the halls, and how he appeared to know everything. She discovered his secret passageways and started using them to do the same thing. She giggled to herself as she tip-toed back to her room thinking she really was
